When I’m not playing Boccia, I play for Wessex Warriors Powerchair Football Club. Wessex Warriors started just over a year ago with about 7 players and now we have 2 teams due to how many players joined. We have come so far in that time and have just finished 5th in the league. I think this is amazing for our first season.
On the 12th June the coaches put on an event called The Sponsors Cup. Our Sponsors Magna Mazda and Dorset Golf and Country Club came down for the day as well as some of the player’s family and friends to play for the trophy. It was a great day. A lot of fun was had by all. I think my highlight of the day was seeing all of the non Warriors get yellow and red cards, especially my brother who got yellow carded twice in different games and had to pay a £4 fine. I think one of our player’s Dad ended getting two yellow cards and a red card.
Wessex Warriors were able to show off the skills that we have learnt over the last year as well as show our appreciation for everything that the sponsors have done for us. I think the day was a huge success. We loved playing all the teams. I think it got very competitive when the Warriors play the parents/family/friends team. Well, Ben and I did anyway!
Surprise, surprise we won the overall competition. Magna Mazda won out of the sponsors and got to take the trophy back to display. The wooden spoon went to Dorset Golf and Country Club.
I think we have had a great season and we can’t wait for our next one. I’m proud of what we have achieved in the last year. It is just incredible! Of course, none of this would be possible without the support and the hard work our coaches put in. A big thank you to Hannah, Alex, Kat, Jason, Rhi, Simon and Becky. Also thank you to Julie for all of the work that you do in the background. I know all of the players really appreciate everything.
